ReviewMe Reviews
I’m still mulling over ReviewMe. I’m not sure that my portfolio of blogs would work well with the service, and I’m rather hesitant about the payout amounts, too.
But in the meantime, here are some reviews:
- Make You Go Hmm has a fairly indepth review.
- Werty.net makes a good point about the 200 word minimum. If you could actually keep your review to the 200 word minimum, you’d be making a decent hourly rate, even if you were on the lower end of the fee scale.
- On the other hand, Texturbation’s review highlights two things about ReviewMe that I was thinking about, too - the way the fee is based on a blog’s popularity within the blogosphere (Alexa and Technorati ratings) and, if you come in at the lowest pay level, the fact that a 200 word review means you’re writing for ten cents a word. As a freelance writer, I’ve got to say that ten cents a word is appallingly low.
- Jarkolicious likes their disclosure policy and the ability to write a negative review, but wonders how the business model will hold up - will advertisers really want to pay to get a negative review of their product?
- Stuntdubl notes: “I really can’t wait when bigger bloggers start to admit that we all, in fact, have a price for our time and opinions.”
- David Ponce of OhGizmo takes the question to his readers: “Will I take advantage of the service again? I don’t know yet. My decision depends largely on your reaction, so come on guys, chime on in, please. I’d love to know what you think about all this.”
- Tris Hussey likes it so far, and thinks it’s a “good strong model”.
- Elliotswan notes:”Overall it looks like a good idea, and as I often share links to other sites and services I feel worthy, if somebody’s willing to give me money as an added bonus for doing so I’m not going to turn that down”, and that, I think, is a good call, too.
And finally, to liven things up, a humorous take on writing paid reviews..
Interestingly, TechCrunch, which has come down hard in the past on the PayPerPost approach (here and here), sounds only mildly disapproving: “While we do not endorse this business model, we do note that ReviewMe has removed the most egregious aspects of the PayPerPost business model: no disclosure requirement, and a requirement to write a positive post.”
Well, if I do jump in, and in time to take advantage of some of the $25K payout to review ReviewMe, it certainly won’t be with this blog, which I calculate would net me a mere $20 per review. Yeah, we’re talking about rather sad Alexa and Technorati ratings here … no blog juice to speak of.
