To celebrate her blog’s first birthday, Christine Kane has a wonderful post on the 18 Stupid Mistakes Bloggers make in Their First Year.

I especially like mistake no. 14:

14 - Not practicing the Art of Allowing

Not everything happens because you got exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated and tense. In fact, the best things happen just because you showed up. The best things happen because you’re having a great time. In my music career, most of the performances, song cuts, radio airplays, and other opportunities happened with no effort on my part at all. I showed up. And good things happened. Same thing goes for blogging.”

And looking over the list, I have to agree with all the emphasis on getting out there into the blog community. Agree with it a little sheepishly, because I have to admit that this is something I have never really done.

Very sheepishly, actually, because when I look back at all the wonderful contacts that I’ve made, and all the lucky breaks I’ve received as a blogger, I can trace all of them back to getting out there and mixing it up in the community - specifically, the problogging and marketing community.

Now that I’m working on my “passion” blogs, I’m happy to say that I’m actually looking forward to getting out there, in this new community in which I’ll be launching my blogs, and getting to know other bloggers. I’m going to have fun with it. And in doing so, I’m very sure that Christine’s Tip No. 4 will come into play.

I’m all about the art of allowing, these days.
